A biscuit with a bit of bacon
Smoked fried well done for
Breakfast with a handful
Of salted peanuts in the
Shell for midday with
Some kinda soup or
Broth at nightfall
Kept Lee and so
Grant’s armies
Marching and
Fighting for
Four years
So why
Not
Me
Though
Life without
Salsa comino
Chiles jalapeños
Cayenne and masa
Flour would be a
Sparse fare for
Anyone who
Has lived
In Texas
And no
Beans!
Well,
Maybe
Black or
Refried with
