Lawn Party 1955

My two elder teenage
Sisters are having a
Lawn party in our back
Yard and have invited
Their friends,
I am specifically not asked
To the party as I am a kid.
I watch them hang paper
Lanterns from the clothes
Lines and spruce up things
As I play in the sandbox,
I am making an Arctic
Landscape because while
Traipsing through my sisters
Stuff in the bathroom I found
An igloo which only needed
Scissors to make a tiny door.
My sisters are getting dressed
And I am playing with my Arctic
Scene as guests arrive and I
Am forgotten in the sandbox.
I am explaining my Arctic
Scene to several male guests
When I feel the hand close on
The back of my neck
Followed by a shriek and a
Hand grabbing my igloo
And running into the house
To the amusement of the
Young male guests laughing.
I am escorted into the house
By my mother who freezes me
With the look of retribution I
Am familiar with as a kid.
Later my sisters return to their
Lawn party with snacks and
Drinks that are always a
Welcome part of any
Event for teens and
I await the coming
Wrath of my two
Sisters for I
Know
Not what.
