Porcelain Fortress
Our parents have gone out
For the evening leaving
Susan, 14, in charge of
Penny, 11, and Sarah, David,
Myself all under 10 and baby
Mary, all rambunctious kids.
Susan has an imperious style
That brooks no opposition,
Penny decides that Susan, who
Holds the baby, has flipped out and
Gone mad as a hatter and
Herds all the rest of us into
The bathroom and locks the door.
Penny has played the porcelain
Fortress card and cannot back
Down though Susan pounds on
The door and threatens dire
Consequences.
Time crawls by and though
Penny is adamant, we are
Unhappy to be laying on
The bathroom floor on
Towels, even the tub is uncomfortable on a towel.
We have water and a place
To urinate but no TV and boredom sets in as we whine and plead
To be let out knowing Susan
Will blame Penny not us.
We drift off to sleep and miss
The Susan/Penny/Mom&Dad
Confrontation if it ever occurred,
I suspect Penny got bored
And unlocked the door
Once Susan calmed
Down, they were
Always tight,
And BFFs.
