Lincoln

He did the
Right thing,
Not the clever
Thing and though
He had faults like his
Victim-blaming a group
Of ex-slaves telling them
In a White House meeting
The Civil War was their fault,
He mostly did the right thing at
The right time like delaying the
Emancipation Proclamation
For years until the victory
At Antietam allowed him
Politically the chance to
Free some of the slaves
After the first day of
The next year in a
Few areas in the
South still in
Revolt but
Not in the
Areas in
The South
Occupied by
Federal troops
Nor in the slave
States that had stayed
In the Union remaining loyal
And because those slaves
Under Federal control
Were a useful asset
To the Union war
Effort but what
Lincoln did
Was right
As he
Saw
What
Was right
At the time
Despite the fact
He was unpopular
With some and criticized
By many as not religious enough
Since he was a Unitarian rather
Than a Trinitarian Christian or
Too prone to telling funny
Stories while the country
Bled from the war but
He was the greatest
President we have
Ever had even
With all his
Faults he
Did the
Right
Thing
Mostly
Because
He had good
Character and
A sense of humor.
He would of joked at
Claims that BLM having
Spent two-thirds of a million
Lives of Americans to free slaves.
He would have said all lives matter.
But of course if you feel some
Lives are more important
Than others then if you
Get to Heaven you
Can say hey Mr.
President you
Are wrong
And he
Will
Listen
With his
Faraway
Eyes, smile
And move on.
