Fur

Early 1950s
I am a kid looking
At a fox fur worn by my
Mother around her neck to
Keep warm over the winter and
I am fascinated by the eyes of
The fox which are not real
But peak out from under
The foxtail for this fur
Was once a fox now
A ladies’ wrap just
Like a rabbit skin
Hand warmer
Muff or a fur
Coat hold
Overs of
A prior
Age of
Furs.
A time
When furs
Were how to
Keep warm over
Bitter winters before
New kinds of material
Made furs passé then too
Politically incorrect to wear
But I see seventy years ago the
Fox eyes and face my mother wore.
In a hundred years will you look
Back at leather, paper and
Gasoline cars with the
Same disdain we
Do furs or will
That fox face
Be back in
Vogue in
Society
Retrenched
When the friction
Factor collapses the web.
Two steps forward, one step back.
