Travel II

Winter snow
I am early 60s
Crossing the Brenner
Pass going south from
Munich to Italy in March late
Winter and from the train windows
I see a ribbon of concrete high up
Clinging to the mountainsides
Held aloft by tall concrete
Towers above the areas
Of avalanche danger
So I wonder what it
Must be to drive
On such a road
So high above
Elbows with
The peaks
Of the
Alps.
I arrive
In Venice
Hours later
In early Spring
The canals lovely
Saint Mark’s Square
Unflooded the air crisp.
Now we hunker down in a
Pandemic but when travel once
Again trips south this Spring
Where will you venture to
See a bit of new sights
Explore your unknown
Listen to the heart
Beat of a city or
A countryside
In Jakarta at
Dusk when
The air is
Heavy
With tea
And coffee
Nutmeg cinnamon
Under a mauve moon sky.
