Fire

Twilight
Lingers as
Stars appear
We sit around a
Campfire on logs
9,000 feet up in the
Gila Wilderness talking
Drinking hot tea eating our
Freeze-dried food we are a group
From the university seeking our
Retreat to the mountains our
Spiritual rebirth like the
Song by Three Dog
Night about going
Where the rivers
Love to run and
Taking back
Something
Worth
Remembering.
I remember the faces
Around the campfire happy
To share a meal and our thoughts.
Deep down inside my backpack
I find a bag of Snickers bars
Little chocolate Carmel
Nuts I take one out
Unwrapping it
As all eyes
Turn to
Watch
Then
I pass the
Bag of Snickers
Around the circle
Of our campfire
As we bond as
A group and
When the
Bag got
Back to
Me it
Was
Empty,
All laughed.
