Rest II

I feel
I have
Crossed
The river and
Rest in the shade
Of the trees Stonewall
Jackson’s last words but
Fitting here in East Texas where
Memories are part of reality and not
Too far from my porch Elisabet Ney
Lies at rest at Liendo the refuge
That she and Mr. Montgomery
Choose to raise their family
Until she moved alone to
Austin to be the sculptor
Of Texas heroes with
Visits from her dear
Husband she was
A hundred years
Ahead of her
Time a fine
Model for
Women
Today
But
On my
Porch they
All pass by new
And old mixed into
A moveable feast BBQ
A fandango of the senses
By a lake in the Piney Woods
At play in the fields of the Lord.
