I am 19
Living with
A Mexican family
In Mexico City attending
A party when an attractive
Young woman asks me what
I believe. I reply love is an illusion
And we are all going to die or words
To that effect but her question has
Hooked me so as we converse in
My poor Spanish and her good
English I tell her I am a true
Christian because I think
Forgiveness and loving
Your neighbor as you
Love yourself are the
Core of the teaching
Of Jesus and not
What seems to
Me the selfish
Promise of
Eternal
Life.
Who
The hell
Deserves
Eternal life.
Many years
Later after I’ve
Been cold dead
For seven minutes
The day after a triple
Bypass from a massive
Cardiac arrest my sister asks
Me if I saw a light to which I reply
Why yes I did see a light with a
Round face with pointy ears
Two eyes and a mouth
Who said to me that’s
That’s that’s all folks!
My sister said that’s
Not funny but I
Told her yes
That is
Funny,
Believe me.
