Walking up
Rose Bud Trail
From the Tom Miller
Dam with my three sons
Ages seven, eleven, fourteen
Telling them about the great flood
In Austin when the last dam broke in
19 something flooding downtown
Austin then we cut right upriver
On LCRA property just under
The bluffs until we reach a
Canyon cut by a stream
Walking at the foot of
Cliffs for awhile then
Back toward home
Brackenridge
Apartments
Married
Students
Housing on
Both sides of
Kermit by the tree
Lined Colorado River
Below the dam which I
Eagerly point out is way
Taller than our building but
Assure them that barring an
Earthquake we are quite safe.
Kids love to worry about nothing
As long as they are happy with
Their life so it gives them the
Itch to scratch with gossip
Things to draw and paint
Stories to write in their
School and the lovely
Memory of a green
Canyon close to
Home unknown
By most adults
Let alone kids
That they
Explored
A secret
Dream
Place.
