I am 18
A guest at
Supper with
My girlfriend’s
Mom Dad brother
When I ask as a dinner
Topic what is the greatest
Virtue suggesting loyalty but
Her father tells me altruism is a
Better virtue a lesson for me in
Humility, the transitory nature
Of what whom who deserves
Our loyalty and the better
Virtue of altruism which
Over the last 56 years
Has proven true as
Giving is better
Than getting
Though my
Study of
History
Atavistic
Shows most
Folks chose loyalty
Too often misplaced
In those whose office
Or rank deserved loyalty
Whereas they were a false
Prophet who bamboozled but
Did not deserve our loyalty
Though all through our
World’s history loyalty
Has been given to
Hitler Jeff Davis
Mussolini and
Other fakes
Right up to
Today’s
Trump.
Sad
We do
Not strive
For altruism as
Much as atavism.
We fight and die for
Anti-semitism slavery
And arrogant dictators
But fail to do good quietly
For a selfless love of mankind.
