Gallant old party an
Homage to the soldiers
Who fought in the Civil War
To preserve the Union but now
Unconcerned with our veterans and
Their families after half a century
Of wars to make the military-
Industrial complex profits
But it reminds me of my
Family who fought in
The gallant armies
Of our Republic
And especially
Of my kin who
Served with
Grant and
Sherman
And became
Inured to violence
Stripped down to the
Kernel of humanity which
Is a killer beast merciless in
Anger perilous to cross so good
Soldiers but the circles across
The pond of time took many
Decades to spread with
Violence lessening
Over time but still
Tapping my head
Against a wall or
A sibling as any
Anger takes
Time to go
Away so
The next
Century will
See the anger
Of Korea, Viet Nam,
Iraq and Afghanistan
Vets will filter down father
To kids for decades so if you
Ask me about strident demands
For reparations from those who
Benefited from my kin dying to
Preserve the Union in the
Civil War my reaction
Is to respond yeah
Come closer I got
A reparation for
Each of you
And that
Goes
Double
For my kin
Who fought
For states rights
In their gallant
Old army now
The new
GOP.
