Hostages
Children are hostages
To fate forcing parents or
At least mothers to compromise
Everything for the security of their
Children which is why so many
Less than perfect marriages
Lasted until one died but
Now we are embracing
The self as women
Can subsist alone
With children not
As good for the
Kid but more
Freedom
For the
Mom.
I used
To tease
My students
About the fallacy
Of quality time with
Mom how forty minutes
Of attention more than made
Up for a day of marginal attention
Which made them laugh as all kids
Can spot a lie instantly though in
Most cases they play along in
A shared illusion of reality as
Confrontation solves no
More than to rub salt
In the wound as kids
Realize they are the
Hostages to fate
Their parents
Must deal
With or
Cut all
Ties
Of family
And go their
Own way alone
Which they call a
Liberated lifestyle
Living only for their
Own amusement
Too sad for any
Words as any
Child can
See.
