Driving home when
My wife who is 34 turns

Has quit her job
Working at the
Drum a UT events
Center as the chief
Secretary in a tense job
Dealing with performers and
UT bureaucrats adding she went
Into her boss’ office to give him
Six weeks warning she would be
Leaving but he told her she had
To resign immediately to which
She asked him if she could
Borrow his desk pen then
Without his any response
Wrote on a blank piece
Of paper, “You may
Consider this my
Letter of
Resignation.”
Then left the Drum.
My reaction is to tell
Her how proud I am of
Her actions while secretly
I am thinking why did she not
Tell him she felt ill then leave in
Order to run out her sick leave while
She looked for another job as when
She quit she gave up all her sick
Leave and vacation of which
She had a great deal of
Both until she quit her
Job but I said not a
Word of this only
Praise and my
Support for
Her action.
Four months
Later in heavy
Traffic driving home
At the same spot with
Her new job secure and
Happy I reminded her of my
Response and then added what
My real thoughts were and she
Smiled and said yes she did
Remember and had read
My real thoughts but
Was too grateful
Of my support
To say she
Knew so
I pulled
Off the
Road
And we kissed.
