Wedding
Her daughter
Is getting married
In her early thirties for
The first time and our home
Is busy as a NASCAR changing
Pit at Indianapolis but I am excused
Duty as I have not made the A-list
Of attending guests but am on
The BE-list for be elsewhere
Which delights me as I will
Get to avoid a church and
Dinner assembly of kids
Sisters brother grooms
Guests nervous bride
And one distraught
Mother-of-the who
As a retired Prof
With academic
Credentials
Running
Down
Her
Forearms
And dripping
Off her elbows
Like a possum fat
Campfire meal is a
Tad nervous as she
Has been left out of all
Planning for said wedding
But worries she has forgotten
Some expected duty which
Is driving her up the wall
Like the dream of some
Classroom of students
She has skipped for
Weeks but then
She suddenly
Remembers.
So much
Better
To be
On
The
Be-list
Elsewhere
Being careful
Content to be
Persona non
Grata feet
Up with a
Good
Book to read
And an enigmatic
Smile, I am off the clock.
