As the oceans rise
Will ports become new
Versions of Venice or of
Tenochtitlan where canals
Parallel the streets offering
Easy access and transportation
Friction-free for any watercraft
And house-raising on piers will
Be a big business at least till
The next hurricane or will
We like old Venice keep
Our sea walls strong
And our homes dry
Like the Dutch do
So well today or
Is all this just
Too far into
The future
Like some
Fantasy
Bridge
Of Sighs
To cross over
Or under when
We do come to it?
