Porch

Five anti
Meridian
I am lying
Abed while
Still waiting
For first light
Writing poems
Reading history
Thankful for this
Sanctuary condo
Thinking of the old
Woman who sat on a
Comfy chair I can see in
The next room as she gazed
Out across the wide cool porch
Down the noontime sidewalk to an
Asphalt pond parking lot autos
Moored along the pond shore
Looking at the trees across
The street and field listen
To the children’s voices
At play in the swim
Pool at peace so
I have kept her
Sign on the
Wall that
Says
What she feels
Porch Sweet Porch
Because she picked it out
And I think she likes my having
Left it there though her calm
Death from old age has
Allowed me to buy this
Refuge she prepared
But never got to use
And I am grateful
For her efforts
And now the
Light shows
Dawn and
Another
Day at
April
Sound
By the lake
In the piney woods.
A place to contemplate
Drink a cup brimful
And take a swim
Share a meal
Heal up
Until
Next
Cruise.
