Star

You are my
Evening star
My last night
Jewel in the sky
Venus herself bright
Above only the sun and
Moon brighter but neither
A star in appearance so no
Competition for evening star.
I see you shine high above
Your light caresses faces
But I know you shine for
Me smiling down on
Earth the goddess
Of love though I
Am only a
Tabletop
Mars
An
Arm
Chair
Caesar
An academic
Admirer of starlight
Bright from your eyes
You offer an old man
Hope and joy both
Perfect celestial
Orbs Mercury
And Venus
Beneath
Venus’
Clouds a
Surface hot
To touch
As any
Star.
