Lido
I rise
Early in
Darkness
Feeling the
Ship’s engines
Faint below decks
I dress and make my
Way to the Lido high up
Sit at a table drink my tea
Watch the sunrise at sea color
The sky then as I read my book
Watch the passengers and crew
Do their dance to the music of
Ship’s time a minuet of care
Service and manners both
Sides in contact but only
Aware of one facet of
The other’s world so
Each careful not to
Presume too much
About the other’s
World on a ship
Which is a sort
Of microcosm
Of the real
World so
Time to
Refill
My
Cup of
Hot tea
Turn a page
Perhaps meet
A new ship friend.
What will they be like
What mixture of plus and
Con what will happen in our
Friendship an unknown at sea.
