Courage
I video chat
With my old friend,
She is in bed this afternoon
As she is feeling unsteady on her
Scooter room to room up and
Down her stair chair in her
House alone her courage
Shames me at my good
Fortune to still walk or
Talk or choose where
To drive while she
Plans trips by a
Series of steps
None taken
But helped
So I am in
Awe of
Her
Courage.
She called
Me after reading
My poem to say hello
At first sight she bursts
Into smiles rolls her eyes
Blushes but cannot sit up
From bed as her MS tires her
We laugh at our wounds smile
Again together touch hearts too
Hurt to mend but happy to see us
Each still held in thrall by the other.
