Picking up
My five-year
Old son from
The Baptist day
Care when I notice
The windows on the
Hallway to the daycare
Are covered in the drawings
Of Jesus done by the little kids
And ask my youngest son where
His drawing is but he frowns and his
Teacher a nice older lady rushes to
Explain his drawing is behind the
Door which she opens to show
A brown-skinned dark-haired
Dark-eyed Jesus looking as
A Jewish carpenter should
Look and my son says
That’s what you told
Me he looked like
But the lady has
Her Holy Bible
With a blond
Blue-eyed
Pink and
Anglo
Jesus and
She says see
This is how he
Looked so I tell
My son we will talk
Of this with his Mom.
When we get to the car
I explain even adults see
What they want to see and
Hear what they want to hear.
