Who in their
Right mind would
Become addicted to
Drugs and/or booze or
Whatever addiction they
Turn to to hide from reality.
Addiction is a symptom
Not the problem so
What is the real
Problem if not
Lack of hope
In our own
American
Dream of an
Opportunity for
Each of us which
Is how we used to
See things but since
Viet Nam inflation and
Tax laws by and for the
Rich stalled middle class
Dreams of a better life by
Making it necessary for
Both parents to work
And children to fend
For themselves no
Mom waiting for
Them after
School
No
Hope
Of escaping
Living one paycheck
To the next all because
Of the greed of the rich to
Avoid their fair share of
The burden then as
During slavery
Playing the
Lower
Middle class
Against the poor
Using firearms like
Planters used the hope
Of owning slaves to
Muddy the waters
While the rich get
Richer and the
Poor get hand
Outs but not
A chance
For an
Opportunity
To rise to the
Middle class who
Meanwhile pay the bills.
Why take drugs?
Mostly a dream
Deferred until
Term limits
Allow us
Hope.
