Rainy

Rainy day today
I awoke to darkness
Even the big pine tree
Outside my window was
Invisible as the sky refused
To lighten up much like my old
Friend in Texas who is a practicing
Libertarian and therefore a bit of a
Gloomy gus irascible crotchety
But honorable with my highest
Admiration for his character
Which is one of the best I
Have ever met he glows
With the best of all
Possible intents
And intentions
And succeeds
Where most
Would fail
A soldier
Always
Now
Retired
But still a
Formidable
Presence and
A good role model
For his offspring and
My granddaughters and
Great grandsons whom I hope
Get to know him better though his
Politics are those of the 1950s
Stuck in the next millennium
So out of date and when I
Tease him about being a
Henny Penny he knows
The falling skies are
Not Caesar’s Gaul
But an old rhyme
About hesitating
To roll the dice
With fate, do
Right, and
Laugh at
Consequences.
Depend upon him
In a tight spot
Even on a
Rainy
Day.
