Night
The light fades
As the sun disappears
Into the Pacific Ocean
Beyond breakers and waves,
Dark manifests until the
Faint light reappears
Tomorrow over the
Mountains east
Of our home.
The velvet
Night
Touches
My check as I
Wander about the
Garden paths wondering
If I am feeling the hanging
Leaves or the silken
Wings of the giant
Black moths that
Sometimes pass
This far north
From Mexico
Seeking I
Know
Not what.
Night shows
The bright light
Of far away windows
Snatches of voices
At once both far
Away and
Close,
Reveling
In the warmth
Of my companion
Feeling her closeness
Cuddling next to me on
The couch watching the
Soft glow of the TV
With our dog lying
On the back of
The couch
Close
Behind us
And the two
Cats close
About our
Feet or
On a
Chair all of us
Huddled together
Enjoying the company
As the night has
Done for many
Dozens of
Eons
And
Then
Goodnight.
