Oxydol

I am five watching TV
In the afternoon where
I see a commercial for
Oxydol washing machine
Powder so I run into the
Kitchen to ask my mother
Do you use Oxydol?
She smiles telling me
She uses Tide instead,
My sincerity and my
Lisp both amuse her.
She is making fudge
Boiling the mixture of
Milk chocolate sugar
Vanilla and pecan bits
To a roiling boil as I
Watch transfixed at
The magic of making
Candy holding the stir
Spoon to drip one drop
Into a cup of cold water
To see if it holds together
Meaning the fudge is ready
To be cooled in a pie pan
In the icebox until we all
Get to try a few slices.
I learn anything worth
Making takes time
And a lot of work
But the result is
Worth the
Effort.
I
Wait
Patiently
For Carol to
Return from her
Visit with friends
In Sacramento
To our home
So we can
Work at
Being
A
Couple
In love patiently
Making something
Sweet that holds
Together.
