Deeds
Good deeds or bad,
They spread like
Ripples on a pond.
They can never be
Taken back once
Set in motion,
Like an avalanche
They build momentum
And either lift up people’s
Lives or crash down upon
Them without seeming
Rhyme or reason.
Each day we set
These things in
Motion by our
Virtues and
Our vices.
We can only hope
That the better
Angels of our
Nature out
Weigh our
Self
Indulgent
Prejudices.
Having said
All that …
Puritanism failed
Both in England and New
England because it was too
Preachy and feared
That somebody
Somewhere
Might be having fun.
When folks at my
Workplace would
Ask me what I did over
The weekend,
I would always answer
Truthfully that I
Did everything
I could get
Away with
Without
Getting
Caught.
I should have
Emphasized, and without
Consciously hurting
Anyone.
