Red Meat

My friend has
A big dog,
A mutt she feeds
Only veggie patties
And goofy bits
Of doggie cracker.
The dog begs me
For red meat,
Which I toss it
When I can,
Though I feel
Guilty to do so
Behind her back.
Is this what the
Other woman
Feels like?
Is she right to
Deny so basic
An instinct
In an animal
Predator.
Can she change
The leopard’s
Spots? Or is
She micro-
Managing
Basic instinct?
She cannot
See what
Seems self
Evident
To me.
